Safety Considerations When Taking Levitra
Before taking Levitra, there are some safety issues to consider. First of all, you should not take Levitra if you are on any type of nitrate medication. It is generally used to treat forms of heart disease. This includes the use of recreational drugs like poppers, also know as amyl or butyl nitrate. The combination of nitrates and Levitra can cause significant side effects. If your doctor advises that sexual activity could be harmful, you should not take Levitra. This generally applies to men who have recently suffered from a heart attack. If you are at all sensitive or allergic to any of the chemicals and ingredients in Levitra, it is not right for you.
All of the commonly reported side effects of Levitra are rather mild and they occur infrequently. The most serious side effects occur only rarely. Possible side effects when taking Levitra include:
- Headache
- Blushing and/or flushing
- A runny nose or stuffed up sinuses
- Priapism, which refers to an erection that will not go away. Traditionally, if your erection lasts longer than four hours, you need to seek help immediately.
- Vision changes, namely seeing a blue haze or being unable to tell the difference between blue and green; on the rare occasions this occurs, it eases as your body becomes accustomed to Levitra and it is simply the result of a cyan-based chemical.
- Very rarely, vision loss has been reported, but it is as yet uncertain whether this is the result of Levitra or other PDE5 inhibitors or other factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes. If this occurs, seek your doctor right away and stop taking the medication.
Typically, the starting dose for Levitra is no more than 10 milligrams a day. Often times, you can take half this dosage and cut the pill in half, doubling your supply.
